This passionate red sole bottom carrying the Pantone color code 18-1663 TPX is trademark-protected in several countries. When Saint Laurent used it in a shoe style, a court decided that only Louboutin has the right to attach it in a non-red shoe. Legal disputes are still pending over the red sole, whenever designers dare copying it.
Christian Louboutin opened his first Paris-based salon in 1991. His other obsession was the stiletto heel. As he once said: “I wanted to make a woman look sexy, beautiful, to make her legs look as long as I can.”
Evolution of an Icon
One of his first high-profile clients was Princess Caroline of Monaco, and the rest of royalty and Hollywood A-listers followed. During the 90s, he convinced women that heel heights of 120mm and higher are the feminine norm. Today, he also creates classic stiletto-heel pumps in 100mm, 85mm, and 70mm variations. He also makes sneakers (mostly high-tops), sandals, wedges, slippers, and pointed-toe ballet flats such as the ‘Solasofia’. They are all equally hot!

Louboutin Lovers
Danielle Steel – bestselling author alive – owns 6,000 pairs of Louboutin heels, yet she is not the only huge fan. The red-lacquered soles are of universal appeal. You can spot them on JLo or the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and heiress Daphne Guinness. The infamous “sammy red-bottoms” were born in a small atelier as eveningwear shoes decorated with jewels, feathers, and bows. Now, most red bottom heels are produced in his Milan factory.
Louboutin Classic Models
There is always this festive part of the collection featuring spikes, crystals, glitter, appliques, lace and mesh, yet what women adore is the ever-growing list of classics! The ‘Pigalle Follies’ are a ‘Pigalle’ update with a shorter toe box. ‘So Kate’ has a pointed toe and ultra-thin stiletto heel. ‘Iriza’ has a cut-out vamp and ‘Decollete 554’ a very long pointed toe. Other cool updates include the ‘New Very Prive’ which is a peep-toe pump with superfine stiletto heel and the ‘Dorissima’ which is a round-toe style with a slightly lower vamp and roomier toe box than that of the signature ‘Fifi’!
